• Hold’em Poker Masters

Stu Ungar is considered by many to the very best NL Hold’em Poker gambler ever.

The three time World Poker Champion was born in New York in 1953 and started playing poker prior to becomming a teenager.

The young bettor started out playing gin and at the age of 10 had won his 1st gin rummy tournament, while on holiday with his mother and father. By the time he turned 14 the little poker maestro had become a pro and dropped out of school.

In ‘54 Stu Ungar entered the record books by winning 10 grand in a gin rummy tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still appears in New York today.

The fast speaking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to athletic greats such as Joe Namath and Tiger Woods. Stu Ungar had a real ability for wagering poker but regardless of his achievements in Texas hold’em poker, he preferred wagering gin.

Stu once said that there may a number of day be a greater NL Hold em player than him except he couldn’t see how anyone could ever be a much better gin gambler.

In ‘80 Stu was put on the global map as one of the best Hold’em Poker gamblers in the entire world when he was crowned World Poker Champ for the very first time. Astonishingly it was the first time he had played in the tournament.

The right after year he put aside any suggestions that it had been a fluke, by successfully defending his crown. And in ‘97 Stu set the record by winning his 3rd World poker championship.

But this poker master also battled with substance abuse and a year after succeeding his 3rd title Stu Ungar died in his hotel room. According to physicians, he had died from a cardiac event which was triggered by his lifestyle.

Stu Ungar had started with absolutely nothing except his ability and expertise for the casino game which made this poker good a millionaire a lot of times over.
