• Web Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve final table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the largest pots in big stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest gamblers in the world. While betting on internet poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Hansen is presumed to be one of the best poker players in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world sometimes. The best poker players in the world might just be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen playing net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his skills in money games?
