Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the greatest players anywhere in the world. While wagering on net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus often plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has absolutely no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the ability out of big stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the total amt.. I believe tv can skew our perception of the real world at times. The best players in the world could be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player.
