Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only participant to achieve closing table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a huge pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has earned many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest enthusiasts in the world. While betting on web poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very weak. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is broke, he has little or no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes almost all of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be 1 of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy in for the total dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have won’t have heard of before. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He usually participates in big stakes omaha high and texas holdem. Gus Hansen has shown himself as a competition player.
