Gus Hansen experienced a marvelous year on the WPT where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen raked in a big pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has earned many tv poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While playing web poker, another side of Hansen has been seen. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen frequently buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all-in. I know Hansen is an outstanding poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless Gus is penniless, he has absolutely no reason to sit at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes most of the expertise out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be players you have won’t have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player.
