Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most difficult but popular poker games. It is a variation that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from every level of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has grown in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha/8 begins just like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of betting ensues. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is flipped on the turn. a further sequence of betting happens at which point the river card is flipped. The entrants will need to make the strongest high and low five card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is where a few entrants often get baffled. Unlike Holdem, where the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is just what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the same approach in just about all poker games.

The low hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the play. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the worst hand that might be made, with the lowest value being A-2-3-4-5. Because straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and lower. The low hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand presented, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem complicated at first, following a couple of hands you will be agile enough to pick up on the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha 8 or better provides an overwhelming collection of betting choices and because you have many individuals battling for the high, and a few battling for the low hand. If you love a game with all kinds of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha hi/low.
