Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once irrelevant game, has increased in popularity so quickly.

Omaha hi/low begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are dealt to every player. A round of betting ensues in which players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are handed out, this is referred to as the flop. Another sequence of betting happens. Once all the players have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering follows at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers must attempt to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where a number of players get flustered. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be every player’s hand, in Omaha hi lo the player must utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely two hole cards. Not a single card more, not a single card less. Unlike regular Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is just how it sounds. It’s the best possible hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in just about all poker games.

The lower hand is more difficult, but really free’s up the action. When figuring out a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand takes the entire pot.

It may seem difficult at the start, following a couple of rounds you will be able to get the base nuances of the game with ease. Since you have players wagering for the low and wagering for the high, and since such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha/8 provides an exciting assortment of wagering choices and owing to the fact that you have many individuals trying for the high, along with a few battling for the low hand. If you like a game with a lot of outs and actions, it is not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
