• No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he liked participating in numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting really competitive in these particular card games as he was playing his father. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to place higher education on hold for a bit and relocated to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s initial 2 years were difficult as he would play extensive hours and do not win a majority of the time. He made some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might better his game by adjusting his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus attention even more on poker.

The real improvement in his game happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would often challenge each other. He was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, he would tweak his logical thinking abilities. He applied these strategic ideas to the game of NL hold’em.

He also helped his sibling Annie Duke master the game of poker. She was a superb student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and compete in the WSOP competition. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world has ever seen. Howard relocated to Las Vegas in 1993 and participated in cash games for the subsequent decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
