Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover anything he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker players in the world.
Phil began playing intently after acquiring a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to discipline and an eternal passion for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
